What Are Whole Foods?

In today’s dietary world there are two main types of food: processed and/or refined and whole foods. Processed and refined foods have ingredients added to them such as sugar, salt, or fat. Often any food that is high in nutritional value and hasn’t been packed full of other ingredients is considered a whole food. A few examples of whole foods include nuts, fruits, vegetables and unprocessed fish and meat.

Because whole foods haven’t had anything added to them, they are much better for people. Whole foods are rich in vitamins and minerals. They’re also very easily and quickly absorbed by the body.  Furthermore, many times whole foods are eaten raw. Many proponents of whole foods like to ingest whole foods through juice. This is called “juicing”. Juicing allows people to digest a variety of whole foods quickly and conveniently. Many great juices can be made with fruits and vegetables – juices that taste great and are great for people.

One common misconception about whole foods is that they’re all organic foods. While this can be the case, it doesn’t have to be. In fact, organic foods can be whole foods and whole foods can be organic but they don’t have to be. However, they do share many of the same characteristics such as being made without any type of synthetic or chemical help.  But there are some differences between the two. Whole foods are much better for people because they don’t contain anything artificial. Whole foods should be consumed whenever possible so that the body is given food that is best for it.
